Human beings are often described as beings of light, both scientifically and energetically. Through the power of photosynthesis, plants take in sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of glucose -the essential nutrient of all living things.
When humans consume plant-based foods or animals that feed on plants, we are indirectly absorbing the light energy from these natural sources. The food we eat carries the essence of sunlight, it makes our blood, which flows and nourishes every corner of our bodies. The energy centers of our cells (mitochondria) convert nutrients and oxygen into energy, emitting biophotons, tiny particles of light that regulate cellular communication and health.
Beyond the physical, this inner light symbolizes our life force, nurtured by mindful living, love, and purpose. In the Winter months, we have less light available, and it is a natural time to hibernate and slow down. We honor this process through deep rest, proper nourishment, hydration and taking the sunlight that is available.
JUST KNOWING that we are beings of light can help us shift out of gloomy states. Knowing how important this natural process is can makes us feel connected to nature, the source of our well-being and thereby we can amplify our inner radiance, connecting deeply to the world and sharing our light with others.
Next time you are feeling blue,

Think about the inner light that is created with every drop of water and food morsel that you take in
Let the morning light penetrate your eyes, look around and know you are connected to all like the roots of trees in a forest
Slow down, rest your sight on a tree, a cloud, a bird, a flower, the eyes of a loved one and feel connected and nourished
Your inner light is a luminous force within that grows brighter as we nurture ourselves, not just with food and water, but also with love, mindfulness and purpose.
